DAY 1 Calgary
Pick up your rental vehicle and spend the day exploring Calgary. Visit the Zoo, take in a football game, stroll the riverside pathways, dine on the world's finest beef. Don't miss Heritage Park in the city's south side, a "living museum" reconstructed Alberta town with costumed interpreters, a steam train and scale-model sternwheeler, an old-fashioned candy store and much more.
DAY 2 Banff
Take the short (2-hour) drive from Calgary to Banff on either the Trans-Canada Highway or the more scenic 1A Highway.
DAY 3 Banff
A full day to explore Banff and area. In town you'll find lots of excitement - shopping, cafes, nightlife, and museums. Check out the Cave and Basin and the Canadian national parks, Banff Gondola will lift you high over Banff for an incredible panoramic view, then take a dip in the hot mineral pools at the newly-renovated Upper Hot Springs.
DAY 4 Jasper
Another great day in the Rockies - travel from Banff to Jasper along the amazing Icefields Parkway. You're sure to be enthralled by the scenery, wildlife, incredible blue lakes and sparkling waterfalls en route. Stop for a self-guided interpretive walk at Peyto Lake. Don't miss the Columbia Icefield Visitor Centre and a ride onto the Athabasca Glacier via Brewster's Ice Explorer coach, before continuing your journey.
DAY 5 Jasper
Explore Jasper, a charming mountain village close to many terrific scenic highlights. Take a tram ride up Whistlers mountain, take a boat cruise on Maligne Lake (operates June 1 - September 30), soak in the pools at Miette Hot Springs, watch the sunset over Pyramid and Patricia lakes.
DAY 6 Lake Louise
Return along the Icefield Parkway from Jasper to Lake Louise. There are plenty of outdoor activities available - rent a canoe, take a lakeside stroll or a longer hike, horseback riding - or simply relax and contemplate the lake's remarkable colour!
DAY 7 Lake Louise
A full day to explore Lake Louise and nearby Yoho National Park. Check out Moraine Lake, another mountain gem, then drive to Yoho where you'll see Takakkaw Falls, third-highest waterfall in Canada. Stop to watch a huge freight train snake its way through the Spiral Tunnels, and visit Emerald Lake where you can sip a glass of wine or enjoy a fabulous meal in this pristine alpine setting.
DAY 8 Calgary
